The Fantasy Game Player’s Girlfriend

Hi there, from a fantasy game player’s girlfriend!

This game exists because my boyfriend is a total dork. His idea of a perfect evening is playing a fantasy game, rolling a bunch of dice with a group of his friends and pretending to be a unicorn loving knight, saving the world.

Until we made this game, I had never really played a fantasy game and most of my knowledge about them came from shows like Stranger Things. But after we had been dating for a few months, his birthday came along and I thought… there’s got to be kind of like a dirty version on these games, right?

It seemed super obvious to me that there would be, but… I couldn’t find one. There seemed to be a few questionable things out there that were buried deep in the world of role playing games, with lots and lots of rules and they seemed wildly confusing to me – a novice player.

Also, I didn’t exactly want to send twenty hours learning how to play a six hour RPG before getting laid, right?

So I partnered up with two friends from college (yes, it’s been as weird as that sounds) and we made this game for my unicorn loving knight. The rules are pretty simple but still hit the key things the dice rolling, role playing dork in your life is probably looking for and it won’t take six hours to play.

If you’re both dice rolling, role playing dorks – so are the other two creators of this game! And we’re working on an additional appendix for you that wildly overcomplicates things has the deeper nuances you’re probably looking for. We’d love for you to check it out.

But if you’re like me, a willing participant in your dork’s strange, strange world, trying to provide them with a really awesome surprise, check out our game. The rules are really pretty clear and from there, it’s a little like a Choose Your Own Adventure book – just read the story bits, tell them when to roll some dice, and do what the books say – the game should last about 45 minutes… if you want. Though we highly encourage abandoning it all, should the mood strike you. You can always just play again later.

And it turns out rolling a ton of dice is kind of fun too.

Happy playing,

Mel
